How to Book Your MCCQE1 Exam Date (and Get the Seat You Want)

Booking MCCQE Part I is a two-stage process — application first, then scheduling a seat — and most of the frustration candidates report comes from treating it as one step.

The Medical Council of Canada owns the current process, windows, eligibility, and fees. Confirm everything at mcc.ca before acting; the details below describe the shape of the process, not a substitute for their instructions.

Stage one: apply

1. Set up and verify your physiciansapply.ca account.
2. Complete identity verification and, for international medical graduates, credential source verification. Start this months ahead — it depends on your medical school and outside agencies responding, which you cannot rush.
3. Apply to the examination during an open application window and pay the fee.

Stage two: schedule your seat

Once your application is accepted, you book an appointment at a delivery centre within the available session dates. This is where seats compete: convenient cities and convenient times go first.

Practical tactics:

• Know the exact moment scheduling opens and convert it to your own time zone. Set an alarm.
• Have two acceptable dates and two acceptable centres decided in advance. Deciding while the good slots disappear is how people end up with a bad date.
• Log in on a reliable connection, not on transit.
• Check back later if you miss out. Seats reopen as other candidates reschedule.

Choosing a date you can defend

Count backwards from the date, not forwards from today:

• How many full weeks of real study do you have, allowing for work and life?
• Is there a CaRMS or licensing deadline the result must land before? Build in the reporting time the MCC publishes for your sitting.
• Is anything immovable in the two weeks before — a rotation, a move, a wedding?

Rescheduling
