MCCQE Part II Is Discontinued: What Family Medicine Candidates Should Prepare For

The Medical Council of Canada ceased delivery of MCCQE Part II in 2021. There is no MCCQE2 sitting to prepare for in 2026, and MDReview does not offer a current MCCQE2 exam track.

MCCQE1 and family medicine certification are different
The current MCCQE1 is a computer-based exam with 230 multiple-choice questions in two sections of 115. The separate Clinical Decision-Making section was removed in April 2025. Each section allows 2 hours 40 minutes. The passing score is 439 on a 300–600 scale.
Family medicine certification is administered by the College of Family Physicians of Canada, not the Royal College. Consult the CFPC’s current certification examination requirements and official preparation materials for your sitting. Do not use discontinued MCCQE2 resources as a description of the current CFPC exam.
Choose practice for the exam you are taking
- For MCCQE1, practise Canadian-guideline clinical multiple-choice vignettes across body systems.
- For family medicine, review prevention, chronic disease, mental health, women’s health, paediatrics, geriatrics and acute presentations alongside the CFPC’s official materials.
- Use official sample materials to confirm the format and current requirements.
